A quick and easy Halloween appetizer featuring creamy buffalo chicken dip with a stunning spiderweb cheese topping. Perfect for parties and ready in under 30 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups cooked, shredded chicken (rotisserie or leftover grilled)
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup buffalo wing sauce (e.g., Frank’s RedHot)
  • 1/2 cup ranch dressing (or blue cheese)
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (sharp cheddar recommended)
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (for dip base)
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (reserved for spiderweb topping)
  • 12 tablespoons sour cream (for spiderweb spokes)
  • Tortilla chips, celery sticks, carrot sticks, or baguette slices (for serving)
  • Optional: black olives for spider decoration

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Shred the chicken using two forks; aim for about 2 cups with some chunks for texture.
  3. Soften cream cheese by leaving at room temperature for 20 minutes or microwaving for 10-15 seconds.
  4. In a large bowl, combine softened cream cheese, buffalo sauce, ranch dressing, shredded cheddar, and 1/2 cup mozzarella. Stir until thick and creamy; add a tablespoon of milk if too thick.
  5. Fold in shredded chicken gently until evenly distributed.
  6. Transfer mixture to a 9-inch oven-safe skillet or baking dish and smooth the top.
  7. Sprinkle reserved 1/2 cup mozzarella evenly over the top.
  8. Fill a piping bag or zip-top bag with sour cream. Pipe a small circle in the center, then larger concentric circles around it (3-4 circles total). Use a toothpick or knife to drag from center outward through all circles, spacing lines evenly to create a web pattern.
  9. Bake for 15-20 minutes until bubbly and cheese is melted, with golden edges.
  10. Optional: Broil for 1-2 minutes until top has brown spots, watching carefully to avoid burning.
  11. Let dip cool for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

For a milder dip, use mild wing sauce or reduce buffalo sauce and replace with ranch. For extra heat, add cayenne pepper or chipotle hot sauce. The sour cream web lines should be thicker than a pencil to remain visible after baking. Serve hot for best presentation; reheat at 350°F for 10 minutes if made ahead.
