A bright and easy summer cocktail combining fresh strawberries, zesty lemon, vodka, and fragrant basil for a refreshing and slightly fancy drink perfect for warm days.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (150g) fresh strawberries, hulled and halved
  • 1/2 cup (120ml) freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup (60ml) simple syrup (homemade or store-bought)
  • 1 cup (240ml) vodka
  • 810 fresh basil leaves, plus extra for garnish
  • 1 cup (240ml) sparkling water or club soda, chilled
  • Ice cubes as needed
  • Optional: lemon slices or strawberry halves for garnish

Instructions

  1. Muddle the halved strawberries and basil leaves gently in a mixing pitcher for about 30 seconds to release juices and aromas.
  2. Add freshly squeezed lemon juice and simple syrup to the pitcher and stir gently to combine. Adjust sweetness if desired.
  3. Pour in the vodka and stir gently to blend all flavors.
  4. Chill the mixture in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes to let flavors marry. Alternatively, add ice now but be aware it may dilute the drink.
  5. Fill serving glasses with ice cubes and pour the chilled mixture about two-thirds full.
  6. Top off each glass with sparkling water or club soda (about 1/2 cup per glass) and stir gently to combine without losing bubbles.
  7. Garnish with a fresh basil leaf and a slice of lemon or strawberry half on the rim. Serve immediately.

Notes

Muddle basil gently to avoid bitterness. Use fresh lemon juice for best flavor. Large ice cubes melt slower and keep the drink crisp longer. The mixture can be prepared up to 24 hours ahead and refrigerated; add sparkling water and ice just before serving. For a non-alcoholic version, omit vodka and add extra sparkling water or lemon-lime soda.
