A quick and easy refreshing summer drink combining fresh watermelon, lemon juice, and sparkling water for a naturally sweet and fizzy lemonade.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups fresh watermelon, cubed (seedless preferred)
  • Juice of 34 medium lemons (about 1/2 cup)
  • 1/4 to 1/3 cup granulated sugar or honey (adjust to taste)
  • 4 cups cold sparkling water
  • Ice cubes, for serving
  • A handful of fresh mint leaves (optional)

Instructions

  1. Cut about 4 cups of seedless watermelon into cubes (about 5 minutes). Remove seeds if necessary.
  2. Place watermelon cubes in a blender and blend until smooth (30-45 seconds) to yield about 3 cups of juice. Strain if a pulp-free texture is desired.
  3. Juice 3-4 medium lemons using a citrus juicer to get about 1/2 cup of fresh lemon juice, removing seeds.
  4. In a large pitcher, combine lemon juice and 1/4 to 1/3 cup sugar or honey. Stir until dissolved. Warm honey slightly if using for easier mixing.
  5. Add the watermelon juice to the lemon-sweetener mixture and stir gently to combine.
  6. Slowly add 4 cups of cold sparkling water to the pitcher, stirring gently to preserve the fizz.
  7. Add ice cubes to chill immediately. Optionally refrigerate for 20 minutes before serving.
  8. Garnish with fresh mint leaves if desired and serve immediately.

Notes

Pour sparkling water slowly down the side of the pitcher to keep bubbles from escaping. Adjust sweetness gradually to taste. Use ripe watermelon for best natural sweetness. Keep sparkling water cold before mixing to retain fizz. Refrigerate the mixture without sparkling water if preparing ahead and add sparkling water just before serving.
