A quick and easy homemade fig jam infused with warm cinnamon and vanilla, perfect for spreads, gifts, and snacks. This jam balances natural fig sweetness with subtle spice for a deliciously comforting treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds fresh figs, stems removed and quartered
  • 1 cup granulated sugar (adjust for sweetness)
  • 2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 1 whole vanilla bean, split and seeds scraped (or 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup water
  • Pinch of salt (optional)

Instructions

  1. Rinse the figs gently under cold water. Remove the stems and cut each fig into quarters.
  2. In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, combine quartered figs, sugar, lemon juice, vanilla bean seeds and pod, cinnamon, and water. Stir gently to mix.
  3. Place the pot over medium heat and bring the mixture to a gentle boil. Reduce heat to low and simmer, stirring frequently, for 30-40 minutes until thickened and figs break down.
  4. Test jam consistency by placing a spoonful on a cold plate; if it wrinkles and holds shape, it is done. Continue simmering if needed.
  5. Remove the vanilla bean pod and let the jam cool for about 10 minutes before transferring to sterilized jars.
  6. Seal jars tightly and refrigerate. Jam keeps up to two weeks refrigerated or can be frozen for longer storage.

Notes

Use fresh lemon juice for best pectin and brightness. Stir frequently to prevent burning. Vanilla bean adds deeper flavor and specks; vanilla extract can be used as substitute. Sterilize jars to prevent spoilage. Jam thickens more as it cools. For smoother texture, pulse briefly in a food processor before cooling.
