Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 medium fresh peaches, peeled and chopped (or frozen unsweetened peaches)
  • 1/4 cup bourbon (e.g., Maker’s Mark)
  • 1 cup ketchup (e.g., Heinz)
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • Pinch of red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
  • Freshly ground black pepper (to taste)

Instructions

  1. Peel and chop 2 medium peaches into small chunks. If using frozen peaches, thaw and drain any excess liquid. (5 minutes)
  2. Combine chopped peaches, 1 cup ketchup, 1/4 cup bourbon, 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar, 1/4 cup packed brown sugar, 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce, 1 teaspoon smoked paprika, 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder, 1/2 teaspoon onion powder, a pinch of red pepper flakes (if desired), 1/2 teaspoon salt, and freshly ground black pepper to taste in a medium saucepan. (2 minutes)
  3. Place saucepan over medium heat and bring to a gentle simmer. Stir frequently to prevent sticking. Let simmer uncovered for about 10-12 minutes until peaches soften and sauce thickens slightly, coating the back of a spoon. (10-12 minutes)
  4. Using an immersion blender, puree the sauce directly in the pan until smooth. If using a regular blender, carefully transfer hot mixture in batches, blend, then return to pan. (3 minutes)
  5. Return blended sauce to medium-low heat and simmer for another 3-5 minutes to meld flavors. Taste and adjust seasoning with salt, pepper, or vinegar as needed. (3-5 minutes)
  6. Let sauce cool slightly before serving to allow flavors to settle. Serve warm or at room temperature.

Notes

Peel fresh peaches to avoid bitterness and tough texture. Simmer gently over medium to medium-low heat to prevent burning and preserve bourbon flavor. Blend sauce thoroughly for a silky texture. Adjust seasoning gradually and taste often. Sauce tastes better the next day after flavors meld. If sauce is too thick, add water or bourbon; if too thin, simmer longer but watch carefully to avoid burning.
