Easy Witches Brew Green Punch with Dry Ice

Witches Brew Green Punch - featured image

A quick and easy Halloween punch that creates a dramatic dry ice fog effect. Made with green juice, lemon-lime soda, and lime sherbet, this spooky drink is perfect for parties and looks like it was brewed in a cauldron.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 liter green juice (such as Ocean Spray green juice blend or green apple juice)
  • 2 liters lemon-lime soda (Sprite or 7Up)
  • 1 quart lime sherbet (such as Breyers or Blue Bell)
  • 1 cup pineapple juice (optional)
  • 12 pounds food-grade dry ice
  • Green food coloring (optional, a few drops)
  • Plastic spiders or gummy worms (for garnish, optional)
  • Fresh mint leaves (for garnish, optional)
  • Dry ice chips (for garnish, optional)

Instructions

  1. Chill the green juice, lemon-lime soda, and pineapple juice in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes or overnight.
  2. Set up your serving area with a large punch bowl or cauldron on a sturdy table. Place cups, ladle, and garnishes nearby.
  3. Pour the chilled green juice, lemon-lime soda, and pineapple juice into the punch bowl. Stir gently to combine. If using green food coloring, add a few drops and stir until desired color is achieved.
  4. Scoop the lime sherbet into the punch. Add in big dollops or break into smaller pieces. Let sit for about 1 minute to soften.
  5. Using tongs, carefully place a chunk of dry ice about the size of a golf ball into the punch bowl. Add more pieces as needed to maintain the fog effect (usually 2-3 chunks at a time).
  6. The dry ice will create thick, rolling fog that spills over the sides. The fog lasts about 10-15 minutes; add a fresh chunk every 20 minutes to maintain the effect.
  7. Ladle the punch into cups, being careful not to scoop up any dry ice pieces. Serve immediately and remind guests to look before they sip.

Notes

Never touch dry ice with bare hands—use tongs or thick gloves. Never put dry ice directly into someone’s cup. Keep dry ice in a cooler with the lid cracked to avoid pressure buildup. For best fog effect, add dry ice about 5 minutes before serving. The punch is best consumed within 2 hours. For an adult version, add 1 cup vodka or white rum.
