These adorable turkey-shaped cookies are made with store-bought sugar cookie dough and candy corn feathers. They come together in under 30 minutes and are perfect for Thanksgiving gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (16.5 oz) roll refrigerated sugar cookie dough
  • 1 cup candy corn
  • ¼ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour, for dusting
  • ¼ cup royal icing or melted white chocolate
  • Orange sanding sugar or sprinkles (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Place a large sheet of parchment on your counter. Sprinkle 1 tablespoon flour over it. Unwrap dough and place in center. Sprinkle another tablespoon flour on top, then cover with a second sheet of parchment.
  3. Roll dough to ¼-inch thickness. Remove top parchment. Cut out turkey shapes (small oval for body, smaller circle for head).
  4. Transfer shapes to prepared baking sheet, leaving 2 inches between cookies.
  5. Bake for 8-10 minutes, until edges are just golden. Cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  6. While cookies cool, prepare royal icing (mix 1 cup powdered sugar with 1-2 tablespoons milk and ½ teaspoon vanilla extract) or melt white chocolate.
  7. Spread a thin layer of icing or melted chocolate on the back of each cooled cookie. Arrange 4-5 candy corn pieces in a fan pattern for feathers, pressing gently.
  8. Dab a tiny bit of icing on the back of two chocolate chips and press onto the turkey’s head for eyes.
  9. Optional: Use orange sanding sugar or a piece of orange candy corn for the beak, and a red sprinkle or red gel icing for the wattle.
  10. Let cookies set for 15-20 minutes (or 5 minutes in the fridge) before serving.

Notes

For best results, let cookies cool completely before decorating. If candy corn feathers fall off, icing may be too thin or cookies too warm. Cookies taste even better the next day.
