Creamy, naturally sweet overnight oats with chia seeds and berries that require just five minutes of prep and four main ingredients. Perfect for busy mornings, this foolproof recipe delivers a satisfying, nutritious breakfast that keeps you full until lunch.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (90g) rolled oats (old-fashioned oats)
  • 2 tablespoons (24g) chia seeds
  • 1 cup (240ml) milk of choice (whole milk, oat milk, almond milk, or coconut milk)
  • 1 cup (140g) frozen mixed berries (blueberries, raspberries, blackberries)
  • 12 tablespoons (15-30ml) maple syrup or honey (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Combine the dry ingredients. In each mason jar, add 1/3 cup (30g) rolled oats and 2 teaspoons (8g) chia seeds.
  2. Add the liquid and sweetener. Pour 1/3 cup (80ml) milk of choice into each jar. If using maple syrup or honey, add 1-2 teaspoons (5-10ml) now. Add a tiny pinch of salt and the vanilla extract if using. Stir until oats and chia seeds are fully submerged.
  3. Add the berries. Drop in about 1/3 cup (45g) frozen mixed berries per jar. Don’t stir them in yet—just let them sit on top.
  4. Seal and shake. Screw the lids on tightly and give each jar a good shake for 10-15 seconds to combine everything evenly.
  5. Refrigerate overnight. Place the jars in the refrigerator for at least 6-8 hours, but overnight (8-12 hours) is ideal.
  6. Check consistency in the morning. Stir the oats; they should be thick and creamy. If too thick, stir in an extra tablespoon or two of milk. If too thin, let sit for another hour.
  7. Add toppings and enjoy. Top with extra fresh berries, a drizzle of honey, granola, or a dollop of Greek yogurt.

Notes

For best texture, use rolled oats (not instant or steel-cut). Frozen berries work better than fresh because they release juices overnight. If using fresh berries, mash a few before adding. Store in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. Can be frozen for up to 3 months (without berries). To reheat, microwave for 30-60 seconds.
