This cozy crockpot peppermint hot chocolate is rich, velvety, and perfectly balanced with sweet and minty flavors. Made with simple ingredients in a slow cooker, it’s the ultimate comfort drink for snowy evenings and holiday gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 cups whole milk
  • 2 cups half-and-half
  • 1 can (14 ounces) sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 ½ cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon peppermint extract
  • 4–6 peppermint candy canes, crushed
  • Whipped cream (for topping)
  • Additional crushed candy canes (for garnish)
  • Chocolate shavings or curls (optional)
  • Mini marshmallows (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prep your slow cooker: rinse and dry the insert.
  2. Add 6 cups whole milk and 2 cups half-and-half to the slow cooker; stir to combine.
  3. Pour in the entire can of sweetened condensed milk.
  4. Add 1 ½ cups semi-sweet chocolate chips (do not stir yet).
  5. Drizzle in 1 teaspoon vanilla extract and sprinkle ¼ teaspoon salt.
  6. Cook on low for 2 hours without lifting the lid.
  7. After 2 hours, stir until smooth and glossy.
  8. Stir in 1 teaspoon peppermint extract right before serving.
  9. Crush 4-6 candy canes in a ziplock bag using a rolling pin.
  10. Ladle hot chocolate into mugs, top with whipped cream, and sprinkle with crushed candy canes. Serve immediately.

Notes

Don’t rush the low heat; it allows flavors to meld. Keep the lid on to maintain temperature. Crush candy canes into small pieces for safety. Make ahead by cooking, cooling, and refrigerating; reheat on low for 1 hour. Adjust sweetness by using dark chocolate chips or reducing sweetened condensed milk. Stir once at the 1-hour mark if your slow cooker runs hot to prevent scorching.
