A creamy, tangy guacamole shaped like Frankenstein’s monster, perfect for Halloween parties. Quick to make with simple ingredients, this playful dip is a crowd-pleaser that’s as fun to look at as it is to eat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 ripe avocados
  • 1 small lime, juiced (about 2 tablespoons)
  • ¼ cup finely diced red onion
  • 1 small jalapeño, seeded and minced
  • ¼ cup fresh cilantro, chopped
  • 1 Roma tomato, diced and seeded
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 black olive, sliced (for decoration)
  • 2 small strips of red bell pepper (for decoration)
  • Optional: a small dollop of sour cream or Greek yogurt (for decoration)

Instructions

  1. Prep your avocados. Cut each avocado in half lengthwise, twist to separate, and remove the pit. Scoop the flesh into your mixing bowl.
  2. Mash to your liking. Using a fork or potato masher, mash the avocados until they’re mostly smooth but still have a few small chunks.
  3. Add the lime juice. Squeeze that lime right over the bowl and mix it in immediately.
  4. Mix in the veggies. Add the diced red onion, minced jalapeño, chopped cilantro, and diced tomato. Stir gently until everything is evenly distributed.
  5. Season it right. Sprinkle in the salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Taste and adjust as needed.
  6. Shape the Frankenstein. Place your Frankenstein cookie cutter on the serving plate. Spoon the guacamole into the cutter, pressing it down firmly with the back of a spoon to fill all the nooks and crannies.
  7. Remove the cutter. Gently lift the cookie cutter straight up. If any edges crumble, pat them back into place with your fingers.
  8. Decorate the face. Use the sliced black olives to create two eyes and a stitched mouth. Place the red bell pepper strips on the sides of the head for the classic ‘bolts.’ If using sour cream, add a little squiggle on top for hair or a scar.
  9. Serve immediately. Arrange tortilla chips around the Frankenstein shape. If not serving right away, press plastic wrap directly onto the surface of the guacamole to keep it from browning.

Notes

For best results, use Haas avocados for creaminess. If avocados are underripe, place them in a paper bag with an apple or banana for 24 hours to speed up ripening. To prevent browning, press plastic wrap directly onto the surface of the guacamole when storing. The guacamole base can be made up to 24 hours in advance; shape and decorate just before serving.
